12.7.2005 AMERICAblog It came as a shock to me, though, to discover that the Dobson guy's spokesmodel was willing to brag that his organization has cash reserves of 140 million dollars. Excuse me. This is a non-profit? What is the tax status of this organization and what is its relationship to the Republican party? As I remember, when I donated to MoveOn.org last year, I was cautioned that my donations were not tax deductible. Same when I donated to People for the American Way. So I am very suspicious that it is these guys who have been taking me, as a taxpayer, to the cleaners all these years. Now that's an agenda, that failure to register as a lobbying entity when really you are engaged in political influence peddling. That's a way more destructive agenda than anything to do with homosexuality, if you ask me.

12.3.200 "FBI Is Taking Another Look at Forged Prewar Intelligence" Those findings concerned some members of the Senate Intelligence Committee after published reports that the FBI had not interviewed a former Italian spy named Rocco Martino, who was identified as the original source of the documents. So, Ford embraces anti-gay bigotry. And the two Ford execs who negotiated the anti-gay secret deal with the gay-hating extremist groups, Ziad Ojakli and David Leitch, are actually former top officials in the Bush White House. And now we find out, below, that one of those same top Bush/Ford officials is also running secret meetings out of Ford's own offices in support of Bush's far-right Supreme Court nominees.
12.7.2005 Jane Smiley:
I had no idea that Rev. Wildmon (can that be his real name?) and the Dobson guy shared my desire to openly discuss the rights of gay people, and thus promote the normalization of the gay lifestyle, but then one of them harassed the struggling ante-diluvian Ford Motor Company and the other removed all of his non-profit's cash from my bank, Wells Fargo, thus prompting more discussion of the rights of gay taxpayers (and consumers) just when Americans were starting to get distracted from the homosexual agenda by the moral repugnance of torture and rendition. Now discussions of gays are all over the net, and the inevitable result will be even greater acceptance of the "gay lifestyle" in places far away from California and New York.

Masri was held for five months largely because the head of the CIA's Counterterrorist Center's al Qaeda unit "believed he was someone else," one former CIA official said. "She didn't really know. She just had a hunch."
But the main explanation for economic discontent is that it's hard to convince people that the economy is booming when they themselves have yet to see any benefits from the supposed boom.

The congressional report, which was not commissioned by a lawmaker as is customary, said the EPA analysis boosted its own proposal by overestimating the cost of controlling mercury and playing down the economic benefits of reducing premature deaths and illnesses linked to air pollution.
12.2.2005 "GOP Wants to Create Secretive Gov't Agency"
By creating a federal agency shielded from public scrutiny, some lawmakers think they can speed the development and testing of new drugs and vaccines needed to respond to a bioterrorist attack or super-flu pandemic. The proposed Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency, or BARDA, would be exempt from long-standing open records and meetings laws that apply to most government departments, according to legislation approved Oct. 18 by the Senate health committee.

A 1985 memo in which Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito suggested that the Justice Department try to chip away at abortion rights has reignited a battle over what documents should be available to senators as they evaluate judicial candidates. "This information reinforces the need for the Senate to obtain all relevant information about this nominee, including his other solicitor general memos and his work in the Office of Legal Counsel," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who has been fighting with the White House for greater access to nominees' documents for years.
